Now that Upfronts 2015 have entered the scheduling phase, we thought most of the major renewals, cancellations and pickups had delivered their biggest surprises. Not so apparently, as FOX has decided to put American Idol out to pasture after 15 seasons, ending the reality singing competition for good next year.

Upfront season has already given us a few pickups, but so too must cancellations follow. FOX’s The Mindy Project has become the first high-profile casualty of the season, canceled after three full seasons, but with a twist: Hulu may already have stepped in to revive the acclaimed comedy.

We've been deservedly hard on FOX's laughable 'Gotham' in its inaugural three episodes, but with ratings across the board proving notably strong, the network has officially decided to make the best of a Bat-situation. Despite the show's own stars touting the virtue of a 16-episode order, the Batman prequel drama has officially been extended to a full 22 episodes for its first run.

Like it or not, 'Family Guy''s Griffins will make their way to Springfield this coming Sunday for landmark crossover premiere "The Simpsons Guy," and no animated universe is safe. Peter will trade chicken-style fisticuffs with Homer, Bart and Stewie will swap pranks, and morbidly disturbing car-washes will be held.
