Emerald Ash Borer

Here's an update on the City of Superior's battle against the Emerald Ash Borer.  We last reported on the process last year when the city felled trees in the north end and near the Blatnik Bridge.  This summer, the war wages on with a new front in South Superior.

The deep-freeze we've been stuck in the last week or two might have an unintended benefit;  Sub-zero temperatures are fatal to the Emerald Ash Borer - the pest that has invaded our area, killing Ash Trees along the way.

The Emerald Ash Borer has been identified in the City of Superior.  Officials are planning targeted treatments to battle the destructive bug, but part of the process is determine whether or not your tree in your yard is an Ash tree.  Here's a primer.

If you're old enough to remember Dutch Elm Disease - when the U.S. (and northland) population of Elm trees diminished in the matter of a few years - then this news will trigger flashbacks.  Officials with the City of Superior have discovered the presence of the Emerald Ash Borer within city limits.  Now, plans are being devised to battle this destructive bug.
