What’s The Latest News On The Bong Bridge Project? Here’s An Update As Of May 29

The two-year Bong Bridge project kicked off just a little under a month ago.  So what's been going on?

A quick drive to the barricades shows that the work crews have been busy removing the roadway that leads up to the bridge on the Wisconsin side.  Wisconsin Department of Transportantion also informs us that they have been removing bridge deck joints.  A subcontractor has also been performing work on the underside of the bridge.

Duluth City Council To Launch Live Stream Of Meetings

The City of Duluth is now proud to offer live web streaming of City Council meetings, beginning at tonight’s 7:00 pm meeting. The web streaming product being used allows for the agenda to be time synced with live video, allowing citizens to easily view the items that are of interest to them. All meetings will be archived for viewing and will be available online. Audio of meetings will also remain available on the city’s website.

Aerial Lift Bridge On Summer Schedule

The Aerial Lift Bridge will begin operating "summer hours" starting Friday, May 23. The bridge will lift on the hour and half hour between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., seven days a week until Labor Day. These bridge operations apply to all marine traffic less than 300 gross tons.

Motorists Advised To Use Proper Detour Routes For Bong Bridge Project

The Superior Police Department has issued a call to Twin Ports drivers to follow and abide by the posted detour routes for Highway 2 during the two-year Bong Bridge project.  With most Duluth-bound vehicles now using the Blatnik Bridge until November, congestion is anticipated on city streets.  Utilizing the proper detour route allows authorities to make changes and monitor traffic situations in a more streamlined fashion.
