Facebook was buzzing with a story of a gun threat called in to Lincoln Park Middle School and the kid was in the school, it scared a lot of people fast because of other shootings around the nation, directly from Northland's News Center our media partner and the Duluth Police Department, here is what is going on.
Duluth's John Shuster Rink, Team USA Curling, won their tiebreaker game today against Korea. Korea started the week strong and Team USA did not. They fought through some games and became 5 and 2 and wound up with a tie for first, because of match outcomes they wound up playing Korea to have a chance to play on and qualify for the Olympics.
This morning Duluth's John Shuster Rink from Duluth, MN upset the top team Korea to move into a tie for first with 4 teams, with one more match to go against Finland around noon cst. The Shuster Rink is trying to qualify for the Olympics by becoming one of the top 2 teams.
The Duluth Police Department launched iWatch some time back, and for whatever reason became CodeRED. The plan was to use it to be able to give more information to those that sign up. Now the Police Dept. is asking everyone in the Duluth area they serve to sign up now. This service will let you know when there is an emergency in your area you need to react to.
In an impressive move today, after the city voted to give Mayor Don Ness a raise, he refused to accept it. The city council voted a 25 percent pay increase, from $78,000 to $97,500. He said it was the right thing to do.

Look for the Red curtains Downtown Duluth. Businesses will have the red curtains hanging in their windows throughout the week to hide the assembly work going on behind the scenes. The decorations are unveiled the same night as the Christmas City Of The North Parade.
More and more people in the Northland are finding that their check isn't going as far as it used to, and are having to lean on food shelves. Based on third quarter statistics, CHUM’s Emergency Food Shelf has seen an increase of 327 families seeking emergency food as compared to the same time period in 2012. During that same time CHUM has had a 48% decrease in cash donations to the Food Shelf.
There are more and more places to bike in the city and now Duluth is planning some more and some share roadways and wants to unveil the plan. Those who are bicyclists are invited to come and other interested community members who want to voice their opinions. They will have the opportunity to learn about the on-road bike lanes being proposed for city-wide implementation.
