March 26, 2013 A new cost could be added to your plane travels. Airlines are noticing that more people are overweight, larger people make the airlines have to use more fuel to run their planes. More fuel costs money, so in order to pay for the extra fuel, airlines want the people who are obese to pay their fair share.

August 21, 2012 Did you ever wonder why the cockpit door is open at boarding but closed during flight? I once flew out of Buffalo NY. and the plane experienced severe turbulence. There were only two people on the plane, myself and my boss, so I knocked on the closed cabin door, the pilot ( who was also the ticket agent, baggage loader, and steward) obliged my request and left the door open for us.

August 12, 2011 The Essential Air Service Program provides Federal subsidies to operate and maintain airports in rural areas that don't see enough passengers to fiscally keep it open.
The airport at Ely, Nevada is one example:
Federal statistics reviewed...Press show that in 2010, just 227 passengers flew out of Ely while the airline got $1.8 million in subsidies. The travelers paid $70 to $90 for a one-way ticket. The cost to taxpayers for each ticket: $4,107.
Arizona resident Randon Reid gave police an early-morning scare Sunday when he reportedly shot at a grounded airplane at the Deer Valley Airport, then quickly fled the scene.
Last weekend, an Emirates Airbus 380 was struck by a jagged bolt of lightning as it began its descent into London's Heathrow Airport. Luckily, none of the passengers aboard were harmed, and the plane made it safely to the ground.
Believe it or not, airplanes generally sustain a couple of lightning strikes per year, and are designed so that their bodies act as a conductor, allowing the lightning to pass through without causing any damage.
