They did it last year and it was a huge success.  That's why Summit Brewing is bringing back their Minnesota State Fair Beer-Naming Contest for the 2018 event.  Similar to last year, the contest will help the Minnesota-based company select a proper name for the specialty beer they'll serve during the so-called "Great Minnesota Get Together".

This years contest being billed as Craft The Name 2.0. It runs May 14-May 20.

Entering the contest is easy.  To send your submission, just send an email to contests@summitbrewing.com with your name, phone number and address, and the name you're proposing for this new beer.  Summit will narrow down the submissions and then let the general public vote via social media platforms.  If you win, you'll get the chance to brew the beer with Summit's Head Brewer Damian McConn;  Later, you'll be invited back to sample the results before anyone else has the chance to.

If it helps, here is a little bit about what's going into the beer - giving you an idea of what it would taste like.  The beer will sourced from ingredients from Minnesota - from the malt and hops to the barley. Summit's website provides more detail:

Low in bitterness with a sessionable ABV of 4.2%, Summit’s beer for the 2018 state fair will be a light, refreshing one meant for hot, sweaty days at the Great Minnesota Get-Together — and we think a Helles-style lager will fit the bill perfectly. Our recipe, though not final, will include Scarlett malting barley, experimental hop TRI2303 from YCH, and a touch of fresh blood orange.

The end result ought to offer tangerine, blood orange, and stone fruit characteristics, with a clean, light mouthfeel and a hint of sourdough breadcrust from the barley. To play up that orange note, Head Brewer Damian McConn says he’ll also “dry hop the $%&#” out of the beer with German hop variety Mandarina Bavaria.

If you want to enter - hurry.  All entries must be received by 11:50 PM on Sunday, May 20.  Fair-goers will get their first taste starting August 23.
