Stevie Nicks Apologizes for Threatening to Strangle Nicki Minaj

A day after making headlines with a quote that suggested she wouldn’t mind putting an end to the rumored feud between ‘American Idol’ judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey by wrapping her hands around Minaj’s neck, Stevie Nicks has apologized.

Explaining that her remarks were uttered “during a long and exhausting day of interviews,” she went on to say that while her outburst was “very out of character for me and I deeply regret what I said,” it was also a case of her protective instincts kicking into overdrive.

“I feel very protective toward Mariah Carey, who has gone through many difficulties in her life, and I spoke without thinking,” Nicks continued. “I think all artists should be respectful toward one another and that includes me. I am truly sorry.”

As previously reported, in response to Minaj allegedly threatening to shoot Carey, Nicks was quoted as saying: “How dare this little girl. If I had been Mariah, I would have walked over to Nicki and strangled her to death right there. I would have killed her in front of all those people and had to go to jail for it.”

Of course, Nicks knows a thing or two about feuds — as a member of Fleetwood Mac, she was embroiled in one of rock’s most tabloid-ready lineups of the ’70s, with members involved in a string of broken marriages and affairs with one another. Perhaps a duet on ‘Go Your Own Way’ is what Minaj and Carey really need to bury the hatchet.
