St. Louis County Commissioners and Veterans Service Officers will honor the counties Purple Heart affiliated veterans with a special reception and proclamation on Tuesday, November 13.  The reception is scheduled for 9:00 AM in the County Board Conference Room on the second floor of the Courthouse in downtown Duluth; the proclamation will follow.

St. Louis County is home to 31 people affiliated with the local chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart - although officials believe that there are probably more than that living here.  Invitations have been sent out to those individuals that the county is aware of, but there is a general open invitation to all other veterans who have earned the honor to join in the celebration.

The Purple Heart is presented to those members of the armed forces who are wounded in action; the honor is also presented posthumously to the family of a military member killed in action.

Members of the Military Order of the Purple Heart will also attend the board meeting to present the county with signs that can be posted along county roads as a tribute to Purple Heart recipients.

St. Louis County is home to more than 18,000 veterans - one of the largest veteran populations in the state.
