Representatives from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) are recognizing St. Louis County for their efforts to promote the health of babies and their mothers through breastfeeding.  MDH officials will present their "Breastfeeding Friendly" Award to St. Louis County Public Health staff at the County Board meeting that's happening Tuesday, October 9 at the Midway Township Town Hall on Midway Road.

The award gives recognition to the ways that St. Louis County has acted as a model to support and promote breastfeeding initiatives.  County officials have provided multiple means to supporting healthy families.

This marks the second recognition given to St. Louis County Public Health Staff within the last few moths; the county's WIC Clinics were recognized by the USDA in August for their Peer Breastfeeding Program.  The Peer Breastfeeding Program provides support from other moms to help participants overcome their potential barriers to breastfeeding.
