It was a good year for residents and drivers in St. Louis County!  All told, 2015 set all-time records for total investment in roads, bridges, and infrastructure.  The spring and summer season saw some major road projects along with other much-needed maintenance.

Some highlights:

  • $50 million in total investment in County road and bridges.  This represents a larger year than either the 2012 or 2013 flood-recovery years.
  • 105 total projects - ranging from road resurfacing to improved traffic signals and lighting.
  • 15 bridges replaced.
  • 31 miles of culverts replaced.
  • 72 miles of pavement preservation projects - such as reclaim and overlay - or mill and overlay.
  • 102 miles of preventative maintenance projects - such as chip sealing and micro-surfacing.
  • 15 miles of Gravel Road Investment Program (GRIP) projects.

In addition, St. Louis County also saw the Transportation Sales Tax go into effect on April 1, 2015.  The Board also approved the issuance of $40 million in bonding to further accelerate investment in the County's road and bridge infrastructure.  Approximately #3 million of Transportation Sales Tax revenue will be used annually to pay back the bonds.

As busy as 2015 was for St. Louis County Public Works, 2016 will be even busier!  Road and bridge projects totaling more than $80 million are in the works, making it the fifth year in a row of record investment to improve the County's 3,000 miles of roads and 600 bridges.
