Drivers in rural Saint Louis County will be a little safer at the end of next summer;  Officials with the county are spending $392,000 to install Dynamic Warning Systems at seven high-risk intersections.

The new system will supplement the current stop signs at these two-way stop intersections.  As they exist now, drivers have a hard time crossing these intersections.  These warning systems will alert drivers on the highway to slow down - even by just a few miles an hour - to alert them that a vehicle is at the crossroads, ready to enter the highway.

The following intersections - all designated as high-risk - will see the warning system:

  • US Highway 2 and County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 46 (also known as Saginaw Road) in Solway Township
  • US Highway 2 and County Road 223 (Munger Shaw Road) in Solway Township
  • US Highway 53 and CSAH 115 (Ashawa Road) in Field Township
  • Minnesota Trunk Highway 37 and CSAH 7 (Highway 7) in Clinton Township
  • Minnesota Trunk Highway 37 and CSAH 25 West (Highway 25) in Cherry Township
  • CSAH 4 (Rice Lake Road) and CSAH 43 (Emerson Road) in Gnesen Township
  • CSAH 37 (Jean Duluth Road) and CSAH 2 (West Tischer Road) on the border of Rice Lake and Lakewood Township
