As the 4th of July holiday weekend approaches, officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation remind travelers that there are a large number of road construction projects throughout the state. Even though the majority of these work zones will be shut down for the weekend, the orange cones and barricades will still be in place; drivers are urged to use caution.
Here's an update on the City of Superior's battle against the Emerald Ash Borer. We last reported on the process last year when the city felled trees in the north end and near the Blatnik Bridge. This summer, the war wages on with a new front in South Superior.
Officials with Saint Louis County recently applauded the efforts of schools on Iron Range for their efforts in waste reduction; students, teachers, and staff together worked to make it a banner year for recycling materials that would have otherwise gone to the landfill. Two schools alone recycled nearly 17 tons of materials.

Work is progressing on the Duluth Transit Authority's Multimodal Transportation Center in downtown Duluth. In order to accommodate construction on the project, some streets in the downtown area will need to be closed temporarily on June 26 and June 29.
