I'm always interested to find out how a recording artist got his start. Johnny Ramistella (Johnny Rivers) got his start in an unusual way. In 1963, a friend who ran a restaurant asked Rivers for help when his house band, suddenly quit. He agreed to perform a on-nighter with just his electric guitar. That was when lightning struck -- it turned out that audience at the restaurant liked the way he sang and played, and soon the crowds were growing and his one night gig turned into an open-ended arrangement, and for those digging the Los Angeles "scene", Johnny Rivers was the man to see. Johnny is celebrating his birthday today, born in 1942.
