I just did a story about how the trains in Wisconsin are in violation if they are on a crossing longer than 10 minutes. It can have a fine up to $500. Now the Superior Police Department is teaming up with Union Pacific and Canadian Pacific railroads. Giving tickets to violators going through the red lights at crossings whether walking or driving.

No doubt it is dangerous to cross the railroad intersection when the lights are flashing, and people are always trying to beat the trains. The frustrations come from the trains illegally blocking roadways and streets more than 10 minutes. Are the engineers getting a fine? So I hope that they are also going to watch the trains and see how long they stop traffic and hand out the tickets and fines for them also.

Not everyone who goes through to the red flashing lights gets a fine, some just get a warning. So how do they choose who gets one? I suppose attitude would be the defining factor.

Take a look at the blog I put up about trains blocking the streets, and also the DNT story on the police crackdown ignoring signals that railroad crossings.
