Ringo Starr and Dave Stewart Announce Movie Musical
After watching the film version of ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,’ you’d think Ringo Starr would have no love for rock movie musicals, but think again — the Funny Beatle is teaming up with erstwhile Eurythmic Dave Stewart to write and executive produce a project for Paramount.
Titled ‘Hole in the Fence,’ the film is reportedly based on an original idea by the duo, and is said to be a “coming-of-age drama” about “a group of kids who form a band to escape their depressing mining town.” The script is being written by David Harris, who’s also working on an adaptation of Stewart’s graphic novel ‘Zombie Broadway.’
While ‘Hole in the Fence’ makes its way through the studio system, Starr will keep himself busy touring with the 13th All-Starr Band, which hits the road June 14 with a lineup that includes Toto’s Steve Lukather, former Mr. Mister vocalist Richard Page, ex-Journey/Santana member Gregg Rolie, and Todd Rundgren. This year’s dates will take the band on a coast-to-coast jaunt from Niagara Falls to Los Angeles, where the tour winds up on July 21.
Stewart, as always, has plenty of projects going on, including his busy production career, ventures into technology (he released his first app last fall) and musical theater (he debuted a ‘Barbarella’ stage play last year), and trying to stay on top of public demand for new music from SuperHeavy.
