Personally, I've loved this song since the first time I heard it. In fact, when I lived in Boston, I bought a sailboat, and named  her Gimme Shelter. I had an artist friend come down to the boat and paint the name on, even the tongue!

The song is about the political and social unrest at the time. There was the war in Vietnam, race riots, and Charles Manson. Mick Jagger sings of needing shelter from this "Storm."
