Destroyer sold well upon its release on March 15, 1976 and was certified gold on April 22. Although exact sales figures are not known, The album initially sold 850,000 copies in the US, well in excess of any of Kiss's first three studio albums.After peaking at #11 on the Billboard album chart on May 15, Destroyer quickly fell and by August was at #192. It was not until radio stations started playing Beth that the album started to sell as expected. Destroyer became the first Kiss album to be certified platinum.
