The Are You Experienced  US version of the album contains some of Hendrix's best known songs, including "Purple Haze" "Hey Joe" "The Wind Cries Mary" and "Fire". In 1987, Rolling Stone magazine ranked it #5 on "The 100 Best Albums of the Last Twenty Years." In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine ranked it #15 on Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.The album was an instant success and critics subsequently regarded it as one of the best rock albums of all time.

How It All Began:

During a performance, Linda Keith, the girlfriend of guitarist Keith Richards, noticed Hendrix. She commented: "His playing mesmerised me". She arranged for him to join her for a drink, and the two soon became friends, and she recommended Hendrix to Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham. Oldham failed to see Hendrix's musical potential, and rejected him. She then referred Hendrix to Chas Chandler who was leaving the Animals. Chandler Agreed to manage and produce Hendrix, and introduced him to Eric Clapton who was doing a live show soon. Clapton invited Hendrix to play a song or two with him at th vent to which he agreed  At the concert, Hendrix walked on stage unannounced, played a couple songs and then walked off the stage. Clapton remarked after hearing Hendrix play "He walked off, and my life was never the same again".
