Many young naive musicians are coaxed into bad deals by record labels and publishers to give up rights in order to get a record contract. The Beatles were one of those groups. Back in their day, many publishers and managers would have bands and artists sign away rights in order to "help" them get deals.

Paul McCartney talks a little about the early days as a Beatle, then says he told Michael Jackson, when they first met, that buying publishing houses and catalogs was a good way to sustain an income when his career is over. Michael warned him that he was going to buy Paul's songs.
