Bill Clinton did it in the Oval Office - and now Barack Obama jokes about it.  The Hollywood crowd is all abuzz today after Obama cracked an off-color joke at a LGBT fundraiser.

Referencing wife Michelle's appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show, Obama said:

"I want to thank my wonderful friend who accepts a little bit of teasing about Michelle beating her in pushups," he said, according to a White House transcript. "But I think she claims Michelle didn’t go all the way down."

Officials close to the administration were quick to suggest that Obama was merely talking in the literal sense, but attendees at the fundraiser didn't take it that way.  Members of the press corp also imply that President knew what he was doing at the time.  Reporter Todd Gillman of the Dallas Morning News filed this report:

"He warmed up with some jokes about the first lady’s appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show. 'Michelle outdoes me in pushups as well,' he said, after saying that she’s taken some criticism on her technique 'because she doesn’t go all the way down' – a line that he let hang, naughtily, provoking laughter from the crowd."

Either way, it's a sure sign that what's already been a heated election season is only going to get more intense as we move towards November.
