The Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian honor, presented to people who have made especially deserving contributions to the security or national interests of the US, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.

Other notables getting the honor include US Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, Girl Scouts founder Juliette Gordon Low, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and the first American to orbit the earth, astronaut John Glenn.
