A new phone scam is making it's way through the Northland - and the source will look familiar!

In recent weeks, many people have been at the receiving end of a phone call that displays their own name and number on the caller I.D. information.  Out of curiosity, they pick up the phone.  At that point, the actual caller - a computer - has is able to validate that your phone number is legitimate;  That information then allows them to target you with future scams.

Law enforcement officials suggest that people resist the urge to answer any call that appears to be coming from their own phone number.
