New Music Releases – August 2012
Our August 2012 New Music Releases calendar features the long-awaited return of Lynyrd Skynyrd, who are back with a new studio album filled with fresh material.
‘Last of a Dyin’ Breed‘ features the breakout title track, which makes use of everyone in the band, including their new bassist Johnny Colt. The locomotive backbeat is something fans will surely embrace and offers a great glimpse of what’s to come from the kings of Southern Rock.
There’s also the highly-anticipated Fleetwood Mac tribute album, ‘Just Tell Me That You Want Me,’ which features standout covers done by ZZ Top‘s Billy F. Gibbons, Marianne Faithful, Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo and Dinosaur Jr.’s J. Mascis, and indie favorites like Karen Elson, Lykke Li and Best Coast among others. It’s got a positive buzz as many of the songs have leaked out online in advance of the release.
Plus, if you’re a fan of the sounds of Art Garfunkel, the taller half of Simon & Garfunkel packages his best and most touching works into the new two-disc collection, ‘The Singer.’ The 34-song set features such favorites as ‘Scarborough Fair,’ ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water,’ as well as previously unreleased cuts like ‘Lena’ and ‘Long Way Home.’
There’s also some interesting things coming from guitar heroes as Steve Vai issues ‘The Story of Light,’ and a supergroup of musicians calling themselves the Prog Collective issue a new self-titled release.
