Journey guitarist Neal Schon and his fiancee have won an apology from British newspaper the Daily Mail for an erroneous story they recently reported, claiming the musician had left his ex-wife and daughters impoverished while lavishing expensive gifts on his fiancee, former 'Real Housewives of D.C.' star Michaele Salahi.

The paper posted the apology to its website on April 4, marking the first time it has issued such an online apology on its homepage.

The original story was based on statements posted online by Judy Kozan, Schon's former mother-in-law, who wrote on an internet blog that the guitarist was putting his ex-wife Amber in “a situation where she literally has no money for food, gas for the car, bills, nothing.”

Schon recently won a court decision against Amber, who was asking for additional monthly support payments for herself and their two children. In February TMZ reported that under the terms of their agreement, Schon has already paid his ex-wife a total of $1.3 million.  A judge in Minnesota ruled that she would receive no further money, recommending that she should get a job.

Schon filed a lawsuit against Kozan on March 18, asking for damages of $75,000 for defamation. He and Salahi evidently intend to pursue any and all others they feel have incorrectly reported on their relationship.

"With respect to the Daily Mail’s apology and payment of damages, Neal and Michaele appreciate that these corrective actions have been taken, and will continue to ensure that journalistic integrity is maintained in regards to reports on their professional and personal lives," representatives for the couple said in a press release. Here is the entire apology from the Daily Mail:

On 22 February we published an article about Journey guitarist Neal Schon and his fiancée Michaele Salahi, entitled ‘Exclusive: Journey guitarist Neal Schon left ex-wife and daughters “so broke they can’t buy food” .. but he gave Real Housewives of DC fiancée $1 MILLION ring’. It claimed falsely that Mr Schon was a deadbeat dad and repeated allegations that he had neglected his ex-wife and two young children, leaving them in such a precarious financial position that they have no money for food or bills and that their home would have to be sold. It also reported claims that Mr Schon was a “drunk and abusive man” who had become “increasingly spiteful and vindictive” using his money to bully his ex-wife and that his fiancée Michaele Salahi had turned him against his former wife. We accept that these allegations are untrue and apologise to Mr Schon, Ms Salahi and the family for any distress caused. We have agreed to pay Mr Schon and Michaele damages and legal costs.
