It isn't uncommon for rock stars to tell audiences "we love you," but as Motley Crue played what were being billed as its last-ever shows in Japan, the affection seemed stronger than usual.

The Japanese leg of the Crue's Final Tour, which contained five shows and took place between Feb. 11-17, was accompanied by a social media outpouring from the band members — particularly Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee, both of whom made it clear that they weren't taking the group's last visit lightly. Sixx started getting nostalgic a few days before they took the stage Feb. 11, telling Twitter followers that having his daughter along for this trip brought back memories of his own first visit.

The following day, Sixx treated Instagram followers to a picture of himself and Lee displaying some body ink along with a few Japanese tattoo enthusiasts during a trip in the late '80s.

Lee posted his own flurry of tweets and status updates, including a special display of gratitude for the audience after the Feb. 11 concert in Kobe. Of course, like any tour leg, the shows had their ups and downs; in fact, for Lee, it may have had a little extra upside down, as his crazy Cruecifly drum coaster malfunctioned during the Tokyo gig on Feb. 14.

While there are some clips of the shows on YouTube, it might be more scarce than we've grown accustomed to over the fan-shot concert footage era, because as Sixx pointed out, that sort of thing is frowned upon in Japan. "Had an epic time tonight Tokyo," he wrote. "And I'm sorry the Crüecifly stopped tonight. S--- happens!"

Lee celebrated the end of the Japanese run by indulging in some stereotypes on Twitter, but penned a more thoughtful farewell note that he posted to Facebook, writing, "I'm really gonna miss Japan until I return one day hopefully soon ... There's no place quite like it. And like any great place ... it's not the place that makes it that way, It's the people! Everything the Japanese people do is so considerate, respectful and thought out! Everything makes perfect sense and I love that and this country! Thank you again for always making me feel special."

Sixx was a little more succinct, posting a brief video of an enthusiastic crowd of fans and tweeting his love in graphic form. For Vince Neil, meanwhile, the visit seemed like a bittersweet experience — albeit one that served as a prelude to some fun in the sun.
