This Sunday the Minnesota Mile races get underway. They start at a location near Fitgers and finish close to the Holiday Center in Downtown Duluth. People can line up on both sides of Superior Street and join the runners later at the Holiday Center for Awards. Parking will be hard but I've included the traffic information.

The Grandma’s Minnesota Mile will be the final stop on the four-race Bring Back the Mile Grand Prix Tour 2015, last years winners in the Grand Prix were Jack Bolas (NC), 4:03 and Heather Kampf (MN), 4:30

Here's a breakdown of the race

8:50 a.m. Grandma’s Minnesota Mile Wheelchair race – open to those 8 yrs. & older

9:00 a.m. Verizon Wireless Kids Mile – open to those 8 to 14 yrs. Old

9:20 a.m. Women’s All City Mile – projected time of 6:46 or longer

9:40 a.m. Men’s All City Mile – projected time 5:46 or longer

10:00 a.m. Women’s Duluth Mile – projected time of 5:31 to 6:45

10:10 a.m. Men’s Duluth Mile – projected time of 4:31 to 5:45

10:20 a.m. Women’s Grandma’s Minnesota Mile (Elite Race by invitation only; see below for details)– for ages 39 & younger: 5:30 or faster; for ages 40 & older: 5:50 or faster

10:30 a.m. Men’s Grandma’s Minnesota Mile (Elite Race by invitation only; see below for details) – for ages 39 & younger: 4:30 or faster; for ages 40 & older: 4:50 or faster

All info for the Sunday Race:

At 8:30 a.m. traffic will be diverted from portions of Superior Street in Downtown Duluth for the Minnesota Mile Race which starts at 9:00 a.m.

There will be temporary "No Parking" signs on both sides of Superior Street from 4th Avenue West to 8th Avenue East. Violators will be tagged and towed.

Traffic delays will occur for approximately three hours. Please use caution and be alert for officers directing traffic in that area.

Canal Park and the DECC may be accessed by using 5th Avenue West and Railroad Street. Traffic coming from the Northbound and Southbound I-35 off ramps to Lake Avenue will be temporarily diverted toward Canal Park. Traffic wanting to access downtown from the Canal Park area will also be required to use 5th Avenue West.

5th Avenue West down to Railroad Street will be the only access to the DECC and Canal Park from the downtown area during the race, and the only way to access downtown from the Canal Park area.

East Michigan Street traffic will be blocked at 4th Avenue West, diverted at 1st Avenue West, and will be sent back to 5th Avenue West via the southbound I-35 off ramp.

Downtown traffic should return to normal by approximately 11:00 a.m.
