It's going to be a busy weekend in Minnesota - on the lakes and on the roads - as the walleye opener brings anglers out of their homes and into boats.  Most of those boats will end up getting towed to and from popular fishing lakes - passing through road construction zones.

Officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation urge Minnesota anglers to use caution this weekend as they pass through those work zones - whether they're active or not.  From lane closures to bypasses and detours, the orange cones bring potential obstacles along the way.

Here is a list of the highway projects that MNDOT feels could affect weekend fishing traffic the most:

  • I-35E between Vadnais Heights and White Bear Lake:  lane and ramp closures
  • Highway 61 in Forest Lake:   single lane traffic
  • I-94 between St. Paul and Woodbury:  intermittent lane closures and ramp closures
  • Highway 280 between I-35W and Broadway Street:  closed, detour
  • I-494 in Plymouth:  multiple lane and ramp closures
  • Highway 100 in St. Louis Park:  ramp closures and lane shift
  • Highway 8 between Highway 95 and Taylor Falls:  closed, detour
  • I-94 between St. Cloud and Collegeville:  lane closures and slow traffic

  • I-35 between Pine City and Hinckley:  lane shifts and slow traffic
  • I-35 in Duluth:  lane restrictions and ramp closures
