Drivers on the Iron Range will want to know about a road closure that's necessary for an extension to the ArcelorMittal Mine Pit on the Iron Range.

A one-mile stretch of COunty Road 715 - also known as Pike River Drive and Whiskey Road - will be closed to accomodate the extension starting today for an indefinite period of time.

County Road 715 will remain open on the north end from County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 21 to a point seven miles south. From the south, it will be closed approximately a half-mile west of Trunk Highway 135.

Turnarounds have been constructed at the points of the road closures. Options for alternate routes include CSAH 138, County Road 416 and Trunk Highway 135.

The county doesn't own the land that the highway was on but rather they had an easement that expired on September 1.  Lawmakers on the Iron Range continue to look at their options for re-routing the road but have no concrete plans at this time.
