One of the busiest arterial roads in Duluth is going to see lane and median closures for the remainder of the 2018 road construction season.  A rehabilitation and pavement repair project on Highway 194/Mesaba Avenue is scheduled to get under way on Monday, May 14.  Drivers will encounter the closures between 3rd Street and Central Entrance/East Skyline Parkway for the duration of the project.

Specifically, the following median crossovers will close for the summer while work is being performed:

  • West 4th Street
  • North 4th Avenue west
  • North Lake Avenue
  • North 1st Avenue east
  • East 9th Street

Crews with the Minnesota Department of Transportation will be working on the highways road surface to improve ride quality, incorporate safety features, and increase mobility.  It should be noted that the Mesaba Avenue work will occur at the same time that the major rehabilitation work is being performed on Superior Street.  Officials with both projects anticipate delays and congestion - however they also agree that the work is necessary and will be worth the efforts once it's complete.

Weather-permitting, work on Mesaba Avenue is expected to be wrapped up by mid-October 2018.
