At the Duluth City Council meeting on June 27th, the council voted 5-3 in favor of lifting the ban of selling liquor in the Lester Park and Lakeside neighborhoods. The ban has been in effect since before 1900.

In a nonbinding referendum back in November, 67 percent of the voters were in favor of ending the prohibition for the neighborhoods. Voters in Lakeside and Lester Park voted with a 53 percent majority in favor of ending the ban of liquor sales in their area's.
