Kenny Rogers and the Commodores?  Sure!  If you know your music history, at the time that this clip was filmed for a TV special in 1980, Kenny and Lionel Richie were working on what turned out to be the Share Your Love album - which yielded hits for Rogers like "Lady", "Through The Years", "Blaze Of Glory", and "I Don't Need You";  Lionel Richie wrote the song "Lady".

Lionel Richie has always professed his love of country music and has said that the song "Sail On" was specifically written for the Commodores to try to capitalize on the country format.  It didn't burn up the charts on the country side, but the song did alright for them on the pop charts.
