Levon Helm Documentary To Be Released in 2013
Film distributor Kino Lorber has acquired the rights to an upcoming documentary, ‘Ain’t in it for My Health: A Film About Levon Helm.’ The movie will be shown in theaters across America in early-2013, with video on-demand and home video release expected to take place in the summer.
‘Ain’t in it for My Health’ looks at the last few years of the life of the drummer and singer for the Band, who died on April 19 at the age of 71 following a long battle with cancer. It focuses on the resurrection of his career after the release of 2007’s Grammy-winning album ‘Dirt Farmer.’ Director Jacob Hatley spent two years capturing Helm as he returned to the public eye as he dealt with his health problems and its continuing financial obligation.
“Jacob was the perfect fly on the wall for many months as we experienced the ups and downs of a wonderful time in all our lives,” said Larry Campbell, Helm’s longtime musical partner. “The result is a rare, artful, and honest glimpse into the fascinating world of one of our true American treasures, Levon Helm.”
Last month, a tribute concert to Helm was held at the IZOD Center in E. Rutherford, N.J., with names such as Roger Waters and Joe Walsh paying tribute to the fallen great. Proceeds from the concert went to Helm’s survivors so they could retain ownership of his studio and barn in Woodstock, N.Y.
