Living on the shores of the largest freshwater lake in the world, it's easy to take Lake Superior for granted.  Help put an end to that by taking part in Lake Superior Day - a free, family-focused event scheduled for Sunday, July 19 at Barkers Island Festival Park.

Everyone is invited to take part with an entire day of festivities planned.  From 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM, there will be live music, food, kids activities, local art, informational booths, and more - including a Blessing of the Fleet.

Organizers have tapped into musicians from our area like Grand Marais' Michael Monroe - who perfoms accoustic folk and jazzy reggae, Red Mountain - a local pop-funk group, and the Oshkii Giizhik Singers.

The SS Meteor Maritime Museum will offer half-price tours, North Shore SUP will have free stand-up paddle demonstrations, and many local artists will display their talents as they happen.

The event is coordinated by the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserce.
