It'll be another long summer of backups and delays along I-35 again this summer as work crews commence on a two-year bridge replacement project near Pine City and the Pine/Chisago County Line.  The work will occur in two phases this year and then finish up next year during the summer road construction season.

Phase one of this year will run April 16 through the end of May.  The work during this time period will bring single lane closures while a bypass and crossover lanes are constructed.  The second phase will run from the beginning of June until some time in October, during which motorists will be restricted to two lane, two-way traffic (one lane in each direction).

During the work, seven miles of new pavement will be distributed along with the new bridge system.

MNDOT anticipates heavy delays and long backups as the summer season rolls along.  Drivers who commute between the Twin Ports and the Twin Cities should expect peak drive times to produce these backups.  They strongly suggest finding alternative routes.

The work at Pine City should end at some point next summer.
