A road project that will affect drivers along the North Shore on Highway 61 has been scheduled for next summer.  In advance of the work, officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation have been working to get information and details about the project out to the general public.  One of the ways they've been accomplishing this goal is through a series of public informational meetings; the next of these is scheduled for Wednesday, November 7 in Grand Marais.

The meeting will run from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Grand Mariais City Council Chambers:  15 North Broadway.  There will be an open session during those times where members of the MNDOT staff will be on hand to answer questions and provide maps, diagrams, and other collateral materials.  An actual presentation is scheduled for 6:20 PM.

The road construction project along Highway 61 will start at the beginning of the season - Summer 2019.  In total, the project will include the resurfacing of Highway 61 both north and south of Grand Marais; at the same time bridge, drainage, and guardrails will be replaced.  The actual work will happen on Highway 61 between Fall River Road to 8th Avenue West, 8th Avenue West to Broadway, and a partial reconstruction of Highway 61 from Broadway to the Guunflint Trail.
