If you've ever driven the highway between Tower and Ely, you've probably determined that that stretch of 169 has been in serious need of some improvements for some time.  Besides the obvious routine upkeep, the route to Ely has long been on the drawing board for a realignment to reduce its narrow, curvy nature.

2017 is the year that work officially gets underway and officials are holding a groundbreaking for the project on Thursday, April 13.  Interested individuals should meet by 9:00 AM at the Eagles Nest Town Hall, at the corner of Highway 169 and Trygg Road.

Work on the highway will continue through the 2017 summer construction season and is anticipated to stretch into additional years.  In total, 6 miles of roadway will be rebuilt and realigned.
