With the 45th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, the St. Louis Blues selected UMD Bulldog Scott Perunovich.

Perunovich, who played his high school hockey in Hibbing, Minnesota, just completed his freshmen season at the University of Minnesota-Duluth where he accumulated 36 points in 42 games played.

This was actually the third time that Perunovich was draft eligible, being passed over in the two previous entry drafts. The former Hibbing Bluejacket had himself a great year with being a pivotal piece for the Bulldogs in their national championship run along with helping Team USA take bronze at the World Juniors.

This doesn't mean that Perunovich isn't coming back for his sophomore season at UMD. The NHL Entry Draft is unlike the NBA and NFL, all this means is that the St. Louis Blues have the exclusive right to sign him for the next 3 years. It's unlikely the Blues would press for Perunovich to sign right away when he could come back to Duluth and develop before signing with St. Louis.
