Grandma’s Marathon and presenting sponsor, Toyota, are conducting a shoe drive starting today through marathon weekend June 14-16.

Local Toyota dealerships, Kari Toyota in Superior, WI, Kolar Toyota in Duluth, MN, Iron Tail Toyota in Virginia, MN, and Ashland Toyota in Ashland, WI will kick off the shoe drive today. Shoes can be dropped off at the dealerships during their normal business hours through June 16.

During Grandma’s Marathon weekend, the goal will be to fill the bed of a Toyota Tundra truck in the Toyota display area located in Pioneer Hall at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, and from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, June 15. An additional collection site will be located at the finish line area as runners will also have the option to donate their shoes after they cross the finish line.

At the culmination of the weekend, Goodwill Industries of Duluth will assist in refurbishing and distributing the shoes for use by those in need, contributing to their mission.

“This is a perfect opportunity for race participants, spectators and community members to clean out their closets. Help us Fill the Tundra and know that you are giving back to the local community,” says David Solon, general manager of Kolar Toyota.
