George W.’s Poison Scare
Very few of us average American people ever get a glimpse of what really goes on in the life of the President. After reading this post, would you really want to be president…even for a day?
Just after 9/11, during a trip to China with President George W. Bush, Condoleezza Rice was informed that she and her boss had probably been exposed to deadly botulinum toxin and “were going to die.”
Hawking her new memoir “No Higher Honor,” Rice told ABC News that Vice President Dick Cheney delivered the bad news via a secure video link in 2001. A detector at the White House had indicated the botulinum exposure and a sample had been sent for testing on lab mice, but Rice, Bush and several staffers had to wait an agonizing 24 hours to learn their fate.
Rice, then the national security adviser, said her deputy put it this way: “If the mice are feet up, we’re toast. If the mice are feet down, we’re fine.”
