Paul McCartney, Elton John and Bon Jovi Make List of Highest-Paid Musicians
We might not hear much rock in the Top 40 these days, but the genre can still pay pretty well if you’re lucky enough to have the right audience. Just ask Paul McCartney, Elton John and Bon Jovi, all of whom cracked Forbes’ most recent list of the highest-paid musicians on the planet.
Of course, it was still a very good year for pop stars — Madonna topped the list at $125 million, with Lady Gaga coming in second with $80 million — but Bon Jovi’s $79 million haul was good for third, while eighth-place John broke the $54 million mark and McCartney, in 12th, made $47 million.
Forbes’ totals were tallied starting June 1, 2012, and ending June 1 of this year, so we can presumably expect to see bigger totals next year for the artists behind some of the bigger rock releases of fall 2013 — a list that includes John and McCartney — as well as the names behind high-profile tours like the recently announced co-headlining jaunt that Sting and Paul Simon have planned for next year.
