Winter-like temperatures have made their way into the Northland, and following those temperatures is the first significant snowfall of the 2014-2015 winter season. The system that will give us our first coating of snow has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a winter storm warning for much of Minnesota and Wisconsin, including the immediate Twin Ports region.

At this time, the heaviest snow should remain south and east of the immediate Duluth-Superior area. The Twin Ports is expected to see between 6 and 10 inches of snow beginning late Monday morning and carrying into the early part of Tuesday (see map below). The heaviest band of snow will impact an area between the Twin Cities and the Mille Lacs area, and extend northeast into Northeastern Wisconsin and the U.P. of Michigan. This area is expected to see nearly a foot of snow, with some areas seeing snow in excess of 16-18 inches. Lake effect snow along the Wisconsin shoreline of Lake Superior leading to locally heavier amounts in places like Ashland.

The winter storm warning is in effect for the Twin Ports region from 10 am Monday to noon on Tuesday. We'll have the latest updates and any closings or delays available here as they become available.
