Everything is not always as it seems.  Local authorities are warning the general public about a scam that is making it's rounds in the area - this time targeting the Publisher's Clearing House.

The scam is a familiar one; The victim receives a call that they have won a large sweepstakes prize.  In order to collect the winning, the victim is instructed to payment to cover processing and handling costs.  The rest is easy to guess - the person never receives the promised sweepstakes cash and the contact number for the original caller is fake.

Authorities stress that you should never send payment or provide personal information (especially financial) to anyone you don't know.  Truly winning a prize shouldn't involve having to pay for it - other than the tax requirements.
