Elton John’s Husband Disses Madonna After Her Golden Globes Win
Saturday night may be alright for fighting, but apparently Sunday will do in a pinch.
If you watched the Golden Globes last night and saw Madonna collect the award for Best Original Song, you may have noticed the cameras cutting to a dour Elton John — and that nasty expression on his face wasn’t your imagination.
Seems Madge and Sir Elton have been feuding for quite some time, as evidenced when she won best live act at the GQ Awards seven years ago and Elton responded by commenting, “Madonna, best f–king live act? F–k off!”
And because mincing words has never been one of Elton’s strong suits, it makes sense that his husband David Furnish wouldn’t exactly be a shrinking flower either. So after Madonna’s ‘Masterpiece’ from the film ‘W.E.’ beat out Elton’s ‘Hello Hello’ from ‘Gnomeo & Juliet’ at the Globes, Furnish took to his Facebook page with some rather scathing (and familiar) remarks.
He first posted, “Madonna. Best song???? F–k off!!!” and then later followed up with, “Thank you for all your comments and support. Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in its narcissism. And her criticism of Gaga shows how desperate she really is.”
The last part of Furnish’s diatribe referenced Madonna’s recent and not-so-subtle accusation that Lady Gaga‘s ‘Born This Way’ was lifted from Madge’s classic hit ‘Express Yourself.’ And since John and Furnish are close pals with Gaga — even naming her the godmother to their son — those remarks surely didn’t help mend any fences.
Anyway, the Material Girl didn’t seem terribly upset by the Furnish outburst, telling Us Magazine, “[Elton's] been known to get mad at me so I don’t know. He’s brilliant and I adore him so he’ll win another award. I don’t feel bad!”
Whether or not the vitriol between the superstars is genuine (some have speculated they might be punking the media just for the extra press), at least Elton can take comfort in the fact that his British accent is actually real.
