Officials with the Duluth Fire Department are announcing a Water Safety Surf Rescue Class - Saturday, July 21st at the Park Point Beach House.  Class time starts at 9:30 AM and is recommended for both first responders and the general public.

The session will focus on how to recognize swimmers in trouble and what to do to successfully rescue them.

Since July 1st, emergency personnel have responded to five rip current rescues on Park Point.  Each of these incidents occurred on days when Red Flag Conditions were present and beaches were closed to swimmers.

Officials warn swimmers and boaters that due to it's size, Lake Superior behaves much like an ocean;  Although general water safety skills are beneficial, those that spend time on Lake Superior for either work or recreation should have additional training.

Additional information about the Water Safety Surf Rescue Class can be found here.
