The early-morning hours of May 30 proved to be fruitful for officers with the Duluth Police Department.  Officers were able to make arrests in two separate vehicle prowl cases.

The first arrest came at 4:30 AM.  22-year old Gage Nathaniel Kasper was taken into custody in relations to incidents that occurred along London Road.  Kasper was apprehended while rummaging through a parked vehicle near the 2400 block.  They recognized him from previous incidents and after maintaining that he did not have authority to be searching the trunk of the vehicle he was in, the officers made the arrest.

The second arrest came just a few short hours after.  At 6:49AM, Duluth Police took custody of 20-year old Alexandria Bianca Bushell in relations to a prowl incident near the 800 block of Partridge Street in Kenwood.

Both suspects were found to be in possession of materials that had been stolen from various vehicles.

The Duluth Police warn citizens to be cautious and smart when it comes to keeping valuables in a vehicle.  They offer the following suggestions to help avoid being a victim of a vehicle prowl.

  • Never leave valuables in your vehicle.  This includes shopping bags, purses, wallets, briefcases, laptops, cell phones, etc.
  • Keep the interior of your vehicle clean and don't leave anything that might appear to be of value.  Some criminals will break into your vehicle under the assumption that something you have left behind has value.
  • Don't store car keys, credit cards, identification, or personal information in the glove compartment of your vehicle.  This is often the first place criminals look.
  • Remove garage door openers, key cards, house, and work keys form your car so that prowlers can't gain access to your home.
  • If you must leave valuables in your vehicle, it's best to lock them in the trunk where they aren't visible to suspecting eyes.
  • Before you leave your vehicle, roll up the windows, remove the car keys, lock the door, and set the alarm - if you have one.
  • Try to park in busy, well lit areas.
  • Avoid parking near anything that limits visibility like dumpsters, large vans or trucks.  Also - it's best to avoid the "fringe" areas of a parking lot - away from traffic.
  • Always report suspicious activity to the authorities.
