It's been a long, cold, snowy winter.  Not only have the symptoms of our long season been hard on people but our homes, too.  In particular, the Duluth Police is warning residents about their garages.  Frost and ice is preventing some garage doors from locking properly and unfortunately, criminals are aware of this.  There has been a recent upswing in garage thefts where the perpetrators are gaining access via doors that haven't been locked due to snow or frost-shifting.

So what can you do?

The obvious answer would be to try to secure your locks and doors as best possible.  If conditions are preventing you from doing so, remove valuable items from your garage - at least until you can close the doors properly in the future.  In addition, be aware of unfamiliar people or vehicles prowling around you neighborhood.
