The Duluth East Greyhounds opened their seventh straight State Boys Hockey Tournament appearance in thrilling fashion. The Hounds staged a three-goal rally in the third period and Ryan Peterson found the net in overtime to upset the Cadets of St. Thomas Academy in a 6-5 thriller.

After the Cadets posted an early three goal lead, Brian Bunten and Luke Dow each scored for East to go into the first intermission down 3-2. St. Thomas Academy extended their lead with two second period goals, setting the Greyhounds in a 5-2 deficit with one period left in regulation. It would be all Hounds from there. Ryan Peterson, Evan Little, and Nick Funk all scored in the third period to tie the game at 5-5 and force overtime. One and a half minutes into the extra frame, Ryan Peterson would score the game winning goal, his second of the day.

After their win, the Greyhounds will go on to face 2 seed Edina, who beat Bemidji 6-4 in the first Class AA game of the day. The puck drops at 6 pm Friday night at the Xcel Energy Center for the match between the Greyhounds and Hornets.
