A recent survey conducted on housing in the City of Superior and Douglas County turned up few surprises:  Demand for homes - especially new homes - is up and the supply of available units is down.

The study utilized census data and market facts to project the need during the next five years.  Maxfield Research and Consulting released their findings at a meeting on Wednesday of the Housing Needs Analysis Forum.

Key take-aways of the study concluded:

  • There is a pent-up demand for ownership and general occupancy rental housing and low-income senior housing.
  • Rental vacancies are low with very limited new product.
  • For Sale market activity has been increasing since 2010, but there is very limited new
housing product available in Superior. Households seeking new single family homes have generally moved out beyond the City boundaries.
