The film ‘Rock of Ages‘ may have had a bad opening week at the box office, but the tour of the same name featuring Def Leppard, Poison and Lita Ford fared a little better last night (June 20) as it got underway at the USANA Amphitheater in West Valley City, Utah.

After opening up with ‘Undefeated’ from their 2011 album, ‘Mirrorball,’ Leppard’s 22-song, 100-minute set leaned heavily on ‘Hysteria.’ Eight songs from their 1987 blockbuster were featured. A medley of five songs comprised a 10-minute acoustic set midway through the show. The main set closed with a quadruple punch of some of their biggest hits: ‘Hysteria,’ ‘Armageddon It,’ ‘Photograph’ and ‘Pour Some Sugar on Me.’ The encore consisted of one song, which was, naturally, ‘Rock of Ages.’

Poison’s 55-minute set focused almost entirely on their big hits, with a couple for detours for solos by guitarist C.C. DeVille and drummer Rikki Rocket. They also performed a couple of covers that they’ve recorded, Grand Funk Railroad‘s ‘We’re an American Band’ and Loggins & Messina’s ‘Your Mama Don’t Dance.’

As the opener, Lita Ford opened with a cover of Elton John’s ‘ ‘The Bitch is Back,’ and delivered a quick, 30-minute set that included two songs from her new album, ‘Living Like a Runaway,’ which was released earlier that day.

The tour will make its way across North America this summer. You can find the remaining dates here.
