I love to road trip.  One of the best parts (besides singing to your favorite songs) is the snacks you munch on, on the way and what you find to eat once you get there.  No worries if you don't have a lot of vacation time.  There are lots of day trips you can take with treats at your destination.  Here are my suggestions for your family to jump in the roadster and enjoy before the summer is over.

    Tobies in Hinckley, MN

I have been going to Tobies for as long as I can remember.  My tastes have changed from when I went with my parents (chocolate covered doughnut) to now, a bran muffin with butter and honey.  Probably the same amount of calories, but I feel better about eating it :)

Betty's Pies in Two Harbors, MN

A local favorite and a tourist destination.  I am always SO full after I leave Betty's Pies.  The problem is that I like their food and their pie, so I always have to get a full meal and since it's Betty's Pies and I can't skip out on the pie!

    Candy Store in Hayward, WI

Norsk Nook in Rice Lake, WI

If you are looking for a cultural experience, try the Norsk Nook in Rice Lake, WI.  Although, they do have three other locations.  They even have pie of the month!  If you have a craving for lefse, but can't make the trip, you can get it online.

World's Best Donuts in Grand Marais, MN

The drive along the North Shore alone is worth the trip.  However, once you arrive you have got to make a stop at the World's Best Donuts to see for yourself.  They pride themselves on their cake donuts and of course my choice would include them slathered in chocolate!
